DAVISON — Kaitlyn Cheney of Davison turned 12 on July 28. She asked her family if she could have a birthday party and have everyone bring items for PAWS Animal Rescue in Swartz Creek instead of gifts for herself.

“I was completely set back by her warm heart and absolutely agreed to her request,” said father Larry Cheney.

Today Kaitlyn has raised in excess of $500 in cash donations along with about $450-$500 in pet necessities, food, litter and toys.

“I am so proud of her as she asked for nothing for herself and when I asked her why she answered that she loves animals and if she could she would adopt all the animals herself,” said Larry Cheney.

Kaitlyn is the proud owner of a cat, a dog, and a chinchilla. She is starting seventh grade this year at Davison Middle School. — G.G.
