DAVISON — Organizers of the Cruisin’ Flag City car show on Main Street are calling their first event a success with more than 200 cars and 600 people in attendance.

Dan McPhail, volunteer cruise director and event DJ, said there were so many cars they extended almost all the way to Flint Street.

“Two vendor merchants completely ran out of food,” he said. “We raised and banked $200 for the scholarship fund. As cruise director … it was heartwarming.”

McPhail offered some clarifications to earlier rules established for the cruise. First, the hours will be every Friday from 6-8:45 p.m. and he said cruisers are “absolutely” welcome to shop earlier than the normal parking time of 5:30 p.m., but cannot back into space until after that time.

Another policy clarification is newer collector performance cars, like the Chevy SSR, Plymouth Prowler, Solstice and Sky and 2002-2004 Thunderbirds are welcome to park on Main Street, which is normally reserved for older pre-1987 classics.

“Sorry for any misunderstandings,” said McPhail, in reference to some car owners who were turned away. “Thanks to Carl (McElrath) and Al (Hatch) at Back to the Bricks for helping us define that policy.”

McPhail thanked the 17 sponsors who contributed to the event and he put out a call for more volunteers to help out with the event starting this week.

He said there will be a prize Friday night for “Best Military Appreciation” outfit or for the guest who best “exemplifies that spirit.”
