Photo by Lisa Paine SAGINAW – The Davison boys’ tennis team competed in the Div. 1 tennis regional at Saginaw Heritage High School this morning after press deadlines. Davison took on Grand Blanc, Grand Ledge, Holt, Lansing-Eastern, Lapeer, Heritage and Traverse City West.

Davison is new to the region, as the Cardinals, along with Lapeer, competed at Clarkston a year ago. Grand Blanc will be another familiar face as a Saginaw Valley League foe. Davison has already beaten Lapeer 8-0 during the regular season and most recently placed fourth in last Thursday’s SVL tournament. Grand Blanc took second and Lapeer placed sixth at the same meet. Along with Davison, Grand Blanc and 2017 regional champion Holt are seen as the teams to beat on Thursday.

The Cardinals’ singles are led by No. 1 Austin Pariseau. Behind him are No. 2 Whitman Hooper, No. 3 Mitchell Rutkowski and No. 4 Cash King. Pariseau, Hooper and Rutkowski each finished fourth at the SVL meet.

Davison’s doubles squads are led by the duo of Robert Walker and Blaine Weld. Kaden Walworth and Montana Bishop fill the No. 2 slot, while the No. 3 team is Trent Simmons and Nolan Close. The last tandem is Andrew Meikle and Logan Spaine in the No. 4 hole. Walworth/Bishop and Simmonds/ Close were the highest finishers at the SVL meet, placing fourth in their respective divisions.
