Tim Elkins Tim Elkins DAVISON TWP. — Tim Elkins has been appointed to serve out the remaining two years of retiring township Supervisor Karen Miller’s term.

The Board of Trustees voted to make Elkins, a trustee on the board, supervisor until Miller’s term expires in 2020. At that time Elkins will have to run for the office to remain as supervisor.

Elkins, 58, has been a trustee on the board since 2004. Previously he owned the Elkins Agency, an insurance company, but he said he will no longer be involved in that business.

Stepping into the supervisor’s job, Elkins said he is already familiar with much of what the position entails, having been a trustee for 14 years. Still, he said he is getting a handle on the hands-on aspect of being supervisor.

“I’ve been involved in the community, I’ve worn lot of different hats,” he said. “I love Davison, I love being involved in Davison. When this opportunity came up, I was thrilled to take it. I gave up a lot to take this, but it’s something I always wanted to do.”

First off, Elkins said he will be diving head-first into the County Club Estates road project, which he said is in the process of bonding. He said he is also working on list of goals – things he’d like to see the township do in the next 5-10 years.

“I want to develop a CIP (Capital Improvement Plan),” hed said. “We need to establish (a CIP) fund and identify projects and needs in the township.

Elkins said he will also be taking on all of Miller’s committees, including the senior center, road and bridges and the county 911 authority.

Overall, Elkins said he thinks he has inherited a solid township.

“This is a great board, we all work well together,” he said. “We have great employees, they’ve made it so we’ve accomplished so much in the last 14 years. Davison Township is a great place to live, a great place to work and a great place to play.”

Elkins is married to wife, Connie, and the couple has two children – Andrew and Alison.
