Conover announces re-election bid for school board

Karen Conover Karen Conover DAVISON — Karen D. Conover, current Secretary of the Davison Board of Education, has announced that she is a candidate for re-election to the board’s six-year seat.

Conover, a 30-year veteran of the school board, served two different terms as its first woman president. She has a Bachelor’s degree in secondary education from U of M Flint, and a Master’s degree in secondary school counseling and psychology from U of M Ann Arbor. She was a high school English teacher and college adjunct professor for 20 years.

Conover has served on the Genesee County Association of School Board Members for several years and is its current vice-president. She also serves on the GCASBM scholarship and community events committees.

During her service on the Davison School Board, she co-chaired the Central Building Project, the Hahn Building Project, the District Technology Update Project, the Library Renovation and Addition Project, and many other improvement projects over the years. She helped create the Academic Curriculum Council (ACC) which renovated the creation and funding of curriculum advances. She serves currently as the board’s Personnel Committee Chair, and served for fifteen years as the board’s Political Liaison to the State Legislature. She has served on the District Policy Committee throughout her entire tenure on the board.

Conover and her husband, Judge John Conover (ret) have two children who are DHS graduates. Daughter Bree is an attorney and son Chad is a police detective. They also have six grandchildren, three of them currently in Davison Schools.

Karen says: “Serving on the school board is a tremendous privilege and challenge! I have been blessed to work with selfless, committed board colleagues and district staff who serve for the right reasons: KIDS and their futures!

“I truly believe that my experience is invaluable to the district and the community at large. I’ve been privileged to be an integral part of bringing the district from ‘good’ to one of the most outstanding and progressive school districts in the country. This is why realtors say that people are excited to buy in Davison and to send their children to our schools.

“I never stop being thrilled at the incredible accomplishments of DHS and DAHS grads. Giving children the very best start in life: that’s what inspires me to serve!”
