Starting at 9 a.m., the all-day event will be packed with numerous activities for all ages, including games, giveaways and a movie on the beach. Food trucks and vendors will also be on hand.

“Every year, we do a big kickoff to let folks know we’re open and to enjoy the summer with us,” said Davison Township Parks director Casey Reed. “It helps to promote the lake and the parks.”

Throughout the day, Lake Callis will be open for swimming and paddle-board rental. Beach-goers can participate in volleyball games, sand castle contests and sidewalk chalk contests.

The complex’s Splash Pad will also be free for the day with a donation of a new or used book to the Davison Community Schools Book Bus.

Other family attractions include live music, a bounce house, Supes Exotic Jungle petting zoo and an after-dusk showing of The Lorax. Reed said that the first 200 people who show up for the movie will receive free treats.

Gate admission for the summer kickoff is $5 for residents, $8 for non-residents. Resident seniors get in for $3, nonresident seniors for $6. Annual passes to the park can also be purchased. For information, call 810-214-1810 or visit http://www.davisontwp-mi.org/parks--- recreation.html.
