Theodoroff is no stranger to the board. He was elected in 2010 to serve as a board member and lost his 2014 re-election bid to Hall.

Hall resigned from the board last month, citing personal reasons.

The board of education met March 1 to interview Theodoroff, who was selected from 10 applicants who sought the appointment to the board to fill Hall’s seat until the November election.

The other applicants include: Matthew Smith, Jr.; Peter Ponzetti; Gregory Wieczorek; Jenna Stephens; Carrie Dudek; Robert Beckelic; Tim Green; Megan Avery; and Rafael Arceo.

The board’s personnel committee, headed by Secretary Karen Conover, sent Theodoroff’s name to the board to be interviewed. The board conducted that interview Thursday and voted unanimously to appoint Theodoroff.

Board member Mark McGlashen was not present, but was put on conference call to participate in the interview and to vote.

Conover said the board followed policy in making the appointment. There was a public announcement of the opening, they accepted applications and then those applicants were reviewed by the personnel committee.

“In view of Mr. Theodoroff’s impressive resume, his quality education, his life experiences, and his recent outstanding tenure on this board, we are happy to welcome him back on the board and grateful that he has offered his services once again,” she said.

Theodoroff has his BA and Masters degrees in Public Administration from the University of Michigan-Flint and his Juris Doctorate from Cooley Law School. He has been active in the UM-Flint Alumni Society where he served as president of the Board of Governors. He has been a local practicing attorney for nearly 24 years, and before going into private law practice he was a key staff assistant to U.S. Congressman Dale Kildee.

Theodoroff and his wife are active members and volunteers of St. John the Evangelist Church in Davison. During his tenure previously on the Davison Board of Education, Theodoroff served on the building and grounds committee, policy, personnel and academic curriculum committee. He also served for four years as the board’s liaison to the Genesee County Association of School Board Members.

Theodoroff said he is excited about his appointment and is eager to get to work.

“I will hit the ground running,” he said. “I know most of the board members…I should be able to step in seamlessly from Mr. Hall. I’m not afraid to ask questions and I’ll make a smooth transition.”

Theodoroff was sworn in March 5 at the regular monthly meeting of the Davison Board of Education. Judge Mark Latchana of the 67th District Court in Burton conducted the swearing-in ceremony.
