DAVISON — Davison’s new varsity football coach, Jake Weingartz, was introduced by the school board, Feb. 5.

Weingartz, who was an offensive coordinator for Lapeer High School’s varsity football program, was hired in January after former head coach Kyle Zimmerman resigned last November.

“Davison has a storied tradition of athletic and academic excellence,” Weingartz said at the meeting. “I’m excited to get on the field.”

In addition to coaching, Weingartz will also teach several subjects at Davison, according to the school’s press release.

This will be Weingartz’s second head coaching position. Prior to the Lapeer West/East merger three years ago, he was Lapeer East’s head coach for six seasons.

Also introduced by the school board was Rob Nuckolls, Davison’s new soccer head coach. Nuckolls, who will coach both the boys’ and girls’ teams, was an assistant coach previously at Grand Blanc High School, Powers Catholic High School and the Flint Arrows soccer club.
