I-69 Thumb Region issues RFP for connecting workers to jobs

FLINT — To build on the success of last week’s talent forum, the I-69 Thumb Region is now seeking proposals for ways to improve the regional workforce supply in 2018 and beyond. Specifically, the Request for Proposals (RFP) should address one of two key areas discussed at the Jan. 24 forum:

Underemployment – Assist residents working part-time and/or at low wages with strategies to advance into higher paying, full-time jobs with benefits.

Retirement/Succession Planning – Help employers manage an aging workforce, plan for succession, and encourage apprenticeships and other job skills training that utilizes the expertise of those approaching retirement.

A $38,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. will be used by the partnership to fund the winning proposals. Proposals are due by noon on Feb. 13 via email to the attention of Janice Karcher, Senior Vice President – Economic Development, jkarcher@flintandgenesee.org, Phone 810-600-1429. or visit http://i-69thumbregion.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/ Talent-Forum-RFP-FINAL-013018.pdf — R.S.

Flint & Genesee Chamber Speakers Bureau draws strong demand

FLINT — The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce has announced the continuation of its Speakers Bureau. As a service to area organizations, Chamber executives and staff are available to speak on a variety of subjects at no cost.

In 2017, the Chamber saw a significant increase of 35 percent in speaking engagements compared to 2016. The increase was due in part to the high interest in economic development in the region and how it affects the local economy, business climate and placemaking – one of the newest topics of discussion. It is also due in part to the flexibility the Chamber has in the format of speaking engagements, which includes face-to-face formal and informal engagements, and digital formats such as video conferencing.
