Superintendent recognizes board

January in Michigan is “School Board Appreciation Month” and I am honored to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Davison Community Schools Board of Education for their dedicated service to our community. The work of a school board member is easily overlooked, but working closely with our school board members I am keenly aware of their commitment to our students, staff and community as a whole.

A highly effective board of education is quite similar to a successful team. Each member plays a vital role based on his/her experiences and skill set. In Davison we have a very well balanced school board, based on qualifications, personalities, education and experience. Our board consists of retired educators (Karen Conover and Kathleen Sudia) a special projects coordinator in the media industry (Mark McGlashen), an entrepreneur (Andrew Hall), a human resource/sales specialist (John Hair), a business manager/bookkeeper (Diane Rhines), and a financial advisor/business owner (Todd Ferguson). As you may have inferred, the members of the Davison Community Schools Board of Education come from varied career pathways and backgrounds. A couple of them were born and raised in the Davison community and others have located their family to the Davison area because of the high performing school district they wanted for their own children. The members on your board of education have a combined number of 80 years of service to our community! We have long standing members that have a strong history of our organization and those who are new to the role of school board member, but well vested in our community.

Thank you to the members of the Davison Community Schools’ Board of Education for living the mission of our school district by putting kids first. The guidance, governance and leadership provided by each of them is second to none and is to be commended. Here’s to a great 2018! – Eric Lieske, Superintendent

Businesses thanked for sponsorship

As a parent of one of the young ladies who golfs with the Davison High School Golf Program, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the local businesses and individual sponsors who make it possible for the girls’ golf team to compete throughout our region.

Coach Darci Stocker and the eight hardworking young ladies on this team admirably represent Davison every time they compete. The girls have learned lifelong lessons relating to courtesy, honesty and persevering in the face of adversity.

Whether it is a bad shot or rainy weather, the girls pick themselves up and keep going. They do not take for granted the donations that allow them to travel and compete.
