Ruth Johnson and Cindy Shields Ruth Johnson and Cindy Shields DAVISON TWP. — Clerk Cindy Shields will head into 2018 with a couple of awards given to her by her peers.

Shields received a special tribute from Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and she was chosen by the Genesee County Governmental Clerks Association as its 2017 recipient of the Loretta J. Manwaring Memorial Award at its annual meeting Dec. 21.

The Manwaring award recognizes Shields for her “stalwart work ethic, which is clearly demonstrated by the many assignments she had undertaken, including co-chairing the committee for the county-wide purchase of new voting equipment, assisting in resolving ballot issues and participating in a ballot recount during the (2016) presidential election.”

Appointed to replace former clerk Karen Miller, who became supervisor in 2014, Shields won re-election to her position in 2016. She has been with the township since 2005.

The tribute from Johnson’s office says Shields is known to be “kind and courteous, professional and loyal, and always ready to assist whenever asked.”

Johnson’s tribute also honors and commends Shields for “her distinguished service to the people of Davison Township.”

As clerk, Shields is responsible for record keeping, financial operations, and the administration of payroll and elections. In addition, her duties involve the proper custody of all records, books and papers of the township.
