Coffee Beanery donates franchise to MCC

FLINT — Mott Community College opened a new Coffee Beanery franchise Tuesday on the main college campus.

Coffee Beanery owner and MCC alumnus Julius Shaw and his wife, Joanne Shaw, have donated the franchise to the college as part of its Culinary Arts program. The MCC Beanery is located on the main floor of the Prahl College Center in the former Alumni Lounge. The donation is valued at $27,500.

The MCC Beanery will serve as a working laboratory much like the Applewood Café restaurant, also located in the Prahl College Center. It will have limited hours and menu offerings, including hot beverages, and pastries made by the culinary program students.

“We greatly appreciate this gift from Julius and Joanne Shaw,” said MCC President Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea. “It will enable us to expand and enhance program offerings for our Culinary Arts program. Their commitment and support of their alma mater will directly impact the future success of our current and future students.”

The MCC Beanery will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 7:30 a.m. to noon Fridays. — L.R.
