DAVISON TOWNSHIP — The Holy Redeemer Daughters of Isabella will once again serve the community, bringing a new event with an old-fashioned flair.

The D of I members are hosting a Victorian High Tea party from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at the Davison Knights of Columbus Hall, 8428 Davison Road.

Chris Kautz, D of I scribe, said she believes the event is something the community will embrace.

"It's all about having fun and enjoying the afternoon," Kautz said.

Women of the community are cordially invited to attend the tea. Guests are encouraged to play up the theme, wearing clothing similar to that of the era, while enjoying a Victorian menu including a variety of teas, finger sandwiches, scones, tarts and other treats.

A four-piece string quartet of high school students will add a touch of class with an air of beauty to the afternoon.

As director of the Davison Senior Center for 28 years, Kautz would host teas at the center. Her interest piqued during her travels in England, as well as the Bahamas, where teas are common.

High teas began at the turn of the century, becoming a popular staple of British culture.

"Ladies of the era would commonly eat in the early morning and later in the evening," she explained. "The teas and foods, primarily protein, were a way of filling in the gap between meals."

A colorful part of the event will be a table filled with "fun" jewelry for sale. Attendees can bring their old, unwanted jewelry to the tea. Treasure or trash, the variety of "gems" will catch the eye of discriminating tastes.

Kautz hopes the Victorian teas will become an annual event. The Daughters of Isabella will add it to one of their various fundraisers that support their causes, including three $500 scholarships for young women.

Cost is $10 per person or $70 for a table of eight. Reservations may be made by contacting Kautz at (810) 444- 2894.
