RICHFIELD TWP. — Township board meetings have been held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. for at least the last 50 years.

For the foreseeable future that will not be changing.

The board rejected a proposal Feb. 14 to have an earlier starting time for its monthly meeting.

Treasurer Debbie Buterakos said she checked with other townships in Genesee County and found many of them start their meetings between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

“I wanted to see if (the board) wanted to make the meetings earlier,” she said, “instead of 7:30 p.m.”

Trustee Gerald Masters said he was against a change in times, adding it has been that way since he started on the board 13 years ago.

“It’s been like that for at least 20 years,” said Masters. “It’s getting toward summer, people have a lot to do earlier in the day so I think the time shouldn’t be changed.

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” he said.

Clerk Teri Webber said she thinks it should stay the same because residents are used to it being at that time every month.

Residents in the audience also confirmed 7:30 p.m. has been the time for board meetings to begin for 50 years.

The board voted 3-1 to keep the meetings at the usual time. Buterakos was the only “no” vote and Supervisor Joe Madore was absent due to illness.
