St. John to hold groundbreaking for Gathering Place

DAVISON — St. John Catholic Church, 404 Dayton St., will hold a groundbreaking for its new Gathering Place and a Drive Under Canopy on April 17 at 2 p.m.

The church needs to additional space because St. John the Evangelist has become the largest parish in Genesee County and the present place where people gather is too small.

The addition to the Gathering Space will provide space for: the Candidates and Catechumens to gather weekly for Dismissals, Dismissal of Children at Mass for Children’s Liturgy of the Word, nursery and child care space, a sound and video room, relocation of the parish library and media center, a family room for visitors refreshments after an event or celebration, an overhead canopy and an outside shrine/ candle grotto for the sculpture donated by the St. John Men’s Club.

Construction will begin now and should be completed by Christmas. Total cost is expected to be around $3.6 million and will be funded through church funds, gifts and pledges, fundraisers and memorials. — G.G.
