Davison grad headed for NCAA mats

Photo provided YPSILANTI — Justin Oliver, a Davison graduate now wrestling for Central Michigan University, became the seventh wrestler in Davison history to qualify for the NCAA Div. I tournament when he finished second at last weekend’s Mid-American Conference championships at Eastern Michigan.

Oliver, a sophomore ranked seventh in the nation at 149 pounds, drew a bye into the second round, where he beat Colt Cotton of Buffalo 14-4. Oliver then beat Alexander Richardson of Old Dominion 5-2 in the semifinals before falling to Kent State’s Mike DePalma 7-3 in the final.

Oliver will take a 28-5 record into the NCAA Championships March 17-19 at Madison Square Garden in New York. – D.N.
