Photo provided Santa Claus arriving last year for the Davison Christmas Parade on Main Street Photo provided DAVISON — The Davison Downtown Development Authority will celebrate the Christmas season with its annual “Christmas On Main Street” event, Dec. 6.

The event begins at 10 a.m. when Santa Claus comes to town with his Elves in the Parade at 11 a.m. New this year, before the parade a special 5K “Elf Run” starts at 10 a.m. for the Elves to keep in shape for the long Christmas Season, organized by the Davison High School DECA Club.

The parade then begins with an Elf Dash at 11 a.m. The kids enjoy the annual reading of “The Night Before Christmas” as Santa makes his way to visit the kids, don’t forget to bring your cameras, said Diane Millington, event coordinator for the DDA.

Kids will enjoy the many activities and fun at “Elf Headquarters” located at Living Grace Community Church, 334 N. Main St. Activities include Face Painting, Letters to Santa, Crafts, Play the Lost Elf Game and enter to win prizes, Strolling Carolers, Hayrides, Refreshments and more. Donations of canned goods, mittens, hats and socks will be taken for Outreach East at Elf Headquarters.

Main Street will be closed at 9 a.m. thru 11:30 a.m. and Second Street between the alley and Main Street will be closed for the whole event. Children will also be going through town looking for the Lost Elves during the event.

“These kids will be with an adult and if you don’t have one of these elves, they may still come in your store and ask if you’ve seen an elf,” said Millington.

It’s a great time to fill your Christmas shopping list during Davison’s Shop Small Business Saturday. The downtown businesses are offering Hometown Specials for the holidays.

“Keep your dollars local and help support the community we live and work in,” said Millington. “From restaurants, clothing, jewelry, appliances and gifts to your hardware and service needs, you can find it all Downtown Davison.”

The DECA Club is promoting Shop Small / Local Businesses on Saturday with drawings for gift certificates from Downtown Businesses when they show a receipt from downtown purchases on Saturday. There is a minimum $10 in purchases to enter the drawings.

Dirty Paws Pet Grooming, 216 N. Main St., will be holding an open house during the event where it will have demonstrations of its new airbrush coloring for pets. — By Gary Gould
