Miss Davison pageant is tonight

DAVISON — The 2014 Miss Davison Scholarship Pageant will be held tonight (June 26), at 7 p.m. Held once again at Davison High School’s Maxine I. Ude Auditorium, the event will be hosted by local author, radio host and TV personality Michael J. Thorpe.

There are 16 candidates vying for the title of Miss Davison 2014 and their share of $1,000 in scholarship money. Prior to pageant day, the candidates attended practices, wrote resumes and completed required community service projects at Relay for Life and the Festival of Flags.

First held in 1938, the Miss Davison Scholarship Pageant is one of the oldest pageant programs in the state of Michigan. Scholarships were added to the pageant in 1992. The pageant consists of four judging phases: Interview, Streetwear, Formalwear and Final Question. Each phase is judged in 6 categories, Poise, Personality, Pageant Responsibility, Overall Appearance, Communication, and Scholastic Achievement/ Community Involvement.

Once crowned Miss Davison 2014 will receive a $500 scholarship and each of the two Court members will receive $250.

In addition to the judged portions of the pageant, the 2013 Miss Davison Court and the Candidates will provide entertainment. Additional entertainment will include a special appearance by the Crème de la Crème Dance Troupe of Academy de la Danse, under the direction of Holly Hallabicky. Following the pageant, a brief reception with refreshments will be held in the gym.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is $5.
