Ballard Village on target for Sept. opening
This, according to Denice Kenville, site manager for the neighboring Taeckens Terrace, has put developers on target for a September opening of the new,
$8.3 million housing project from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Already, said Kenville, a waiting list has started for potential residents for the new facility.
“Applicants should inquire here (at Taeckens Terrace),” said Kenville. “There’s a waiting list and it will fill up quickly.”
Requirements for residency at the assisted senior housing community include:
• Must be age 62 or older
• Must have a yearly income of under $20,450
• For two people living together, income must be less than $23,400
Kenville said rent for the apartments is 30 percent of the tenant’s monthly adjusted income.
She said Ballard Village is working to incorporate substantive services such as:
• Additional care
• Meal preparation
• Assistance with showering
Ballard Village will join Taeckens Terrace and Braidwood Manor in Davison in this non-profit Christian housing corporation. The facility is named for Ken and Nancy Ballard, who have been working on senior housing projects since the 1970s.
Ballard Village is located at 10137 Lapeer Rd., a quarter-mile east of M-15, State Rd.
Braidwood Manor was completed in 1980 and Taeckens Terrace in 1999.
Ballard Village will offer a higher level of supportive care for seniors. Residents of Braidwood Manor, Taeckens Terrace and Lockwood of Davison, may be eligible for transfer to the new facility, but housing will be available to all seniors that qualify.
Anyone interested in applying for residency at Ballard Village can visit Taeckens Terrace during regular business hours — Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. Details: Call 810-412-5778.
