EARL D. HERSHBERGER,

EARL D. HERSHBERGER, 89, of Flint and Davison, passed away on August 10, 2010 at Brian’s House Hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Earl was one of six children born to Clifford Earl and Mary Anna (Rhoads) Hershberger on September 2, 1920, in Mio, Michigan. He served our country with the Army from 1942 until 1946 as a Sergeant.

Earl married Audrey Snider in 1946, who predeceased him 1963. Earl then married Elaine (Langlois) DePriest in 1964. Elaine predeceased him in 1998. Mr. Hershberger owned and operated Hershberger Heating & Cooling, finally retiring in 1992. He was an Elder of St. Andrewís Presbyterian Church and a Charter Member of the Davison Optimist Club. Earl was a 32nd Degree Shrine Bay City Consistory member, a member of Davison Masonic Lodge #236 and participated in the Shrinerís Tin Lizzie parade unit. He also served on the Board of Directors for both Eastside Senior Center Association and the Eastside Senior Center.

Earl loved to travel and was very proud of the fact that he had visited 49 of the 50 United States; the only state not traveled in was North Dakota. He also visited Europe, Africa, Mexico, the Caribbean, South America, the Philippines and New Caledonia.

Earl is survived by children, Kenneth Hershberger, Keith Hershberger & life partner, Kevin Green, Dennis (Nora Lessnau) Hershberger, Sue (Wayne) Flewelling, Jim (Shelley) Hershberger, Sally (Matthew) Lignitz; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His sister, Irma (Donald) Parks also survives him. Mr. Hershberger was predeceased by grandsons, Zachary Arthur Joseph Hershberger and Spence Alan Hershberger; twin-sister, Agnes (Reuel) Lehman, Velma (Warren) Bohnet, Wanda (Donald) Forrest; and brother, Gerald (Doris) Hershberger.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind, 1039 S. Rochester Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307, from whom Earl received his faithful guide dog Cooper—who served him in his last two years.

Funeral Services were held on Friday, August 13, 2010 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 8192 Davison Road, Davison, Rev. Robert D. Taylor officiated. Interment, with Military Honors, will be at Davison Cemetery.
