Community invited to say goodbye to retirees

DAVISON — At Hill Elementary, a community open house is planned for Pat Fredell, secretary to the principal, and Rene’ Sipley, head cook, from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 26, in the gymnasium. The Hill PTO and staff will serve cake and punch. Fredell is retiring after 23 years with the district; Sipley has served 24 years. — G.G.

Bike-A-Thon for Aug. 21

RICHFIELD TWP. — Richfield Township Parks & Recreation will hold a Bike-A-Thon starting at Siple Elementary Aug. 21 and running through a 3 1/2 mile course through Richfield Park and back. The event will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and the money raised will raise funds for biking and walking trails. There will be prizes, refreshments, exercise and fun. Crime prevention meeting planned

DAVISON TWP. — Another crime prevention meeting will be held Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Davison Township offices, 1280 North Irish Rd. This time Ofc. Kevin Roberts will focus on tips for homeowners to make their house safer.

2nd Annual Davison Dog Walk coming

DAVISON — The 2nd Annual Davison Dog Walk that is planned for Aug. 29, at the Jack Abernathy Regional Park. This is a perfect opportunity to bring community, dogs and dog lovers, together while benefiting C.A.R.E., a local animal non-profit rescue organization.

Last year, C.A.R.E. had more than 60 dogs and pet owners register for this event. This year's event will include pet games, face painting for the kids, raffle, DJ, and a pet contest with celebrity judges.

Walk registraton is $10 for one dog and $15 for two. Vendor booths are $10. Sponsors will have their names recognized at the park on the day of the event.

VFW to hold pasty sale

DAVISON TWP. — The Davison VFW 4087, 9474 Lapeer Rd., Davison, will hold its first pasty sales on Sept. 9-10. Pick up pasties from 3-6 p.m. Order pasties by Sept. 1 by calling Carol at 653-1302. Pasties are $3.50 for beef or turkey and $4 for beef/Jalapeno. — G.G.

Texas Hold ‘em coming to VFW

DAVISON TWP. — Davison VFW 4087 Ladies Auxiliary will be Holding the Season’s 1st Texas Hold Em on Sept. 9. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the game starts at 7 p.m. Entry fee is $30 and includes $1,500 in poker chips, food, coffee and pop. License #M60127. Ribbon sale to help the VFW

DAVISON — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4087 Ladies Auxiliary will be selling Red, White and Blue Chain of Love ribbons at the Davison Car Cruise Aug. 27 from 5-7:30 p.m. in front of The Davison Index, 220 N. Main St. Proceeds from the $1 ribbon sales will go toward helping the ailing post pay its monthly mortgage. The auxiliary has already sold about 1,300 ribbons and have raised $1,800 in donations.

Genesee County Parks accepting donations for upcoming 2010 programs

GENESEE COUNTY — In keeping with Genesee County’s efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle Genesee County Parks will accept donations of gently used and new: Clean egg cartons (Styrofoam and cardboard), plant pots (plastic), fishing equipment, buttons, scrap fabrics, paper towel and toilet paper rolls, sunglasses, hats, wool sweaters and scarves, gum and candy wrappers, duct tape, scissors, and staples.
