Board of Trustees changes minutes from June

RICHFIELD TWP. — The Board of Trustees approved a change to the board minutes from June to address the individual cost centers in the budget at its Aug. 10 meeting.

The cost centers, which are the various departmental budgets for the township, were left out of a resolution passed in June which established the July 1 budget.

“This resolution (passed Aug. 10) just stated the true intent,” said Supervisor Joe Madore. It passed by a 5-0 vote.

The board also discussed the possibility of raising its police assessment. Madore said he will bring three proposals to the board next month which will show what would happen if there is a 0, 5 or 10 percent increase to the millage. By law the township can raise the millage up to 10 percent without a vote of the people.

Madore said as it stands the police department’s annual budget is only covered by about two-thirds with the millage. The other third of the budget comes from the Richfield Township general fund balance.

In other action:

• The board lowered its garbage assessment by $5 per home. Madore said enough money has built up in the garbage fund that residents do not need to continue paying the entire assessment.

• The board hired a new part-time police officer, Brandon Snyder. The department is awaiting all of his final tests and evaluations before he will officially start work. Madore said the township may hire another part-time officer soon because one full-time officer is on medical leave. — Gary Gould
