Compost site demise leads to new curbside rules

DAVISON — Republic Services, the city’s waste hauler, will begin collecting yard waste placed at curbside April 12, following the previously posted recycling schedule.

City Manager Dale Martin said yard waste must be placed in a biodegradable bag, typically available at area stores, or in a container clearly marked as yard waste (either a sticker or "Yard Waste" painted on the container).

“The city does have a very limited supply of stickers which will be provided free to residents that request such a sticker,” he said.

Martin said he will continue to work with Republic to develop additional programs to reduce costs to residents and implement new, efficient, and "green" opportunities and programs within Davison.

Further discussion is expected at the April 26 City Council meeting.

The council ended the compost site recently as part of cost cutting measures — and because the site did not meet state requirements and would need to be closed regardless. — Gary Gould
