— Senior Lauren Bellamy was one point shy of 30 points at 29 to lead Davison to a 69-51 Big Nine win over rival Carman- Ainsworth last Friday at Davison. The win keeps Davison at the top of the Big Nine race at 5-1, 10-3 overall, a stellar season at the halfway point.
The first quarter did not reveal a winner in this one, as Davison actually trailed, 10-6, then slipped into the lead at halftime, 23-20 after a 17-10 second-quarter performance.
Bellamy was the one to watch in this one as she hit for 13 field goals and was 3- of-5 at the charity stripe. The Lady Cavaliers just had no answer for Bellamy and the other role players as Davison increased its lead to 48-37 after the third quarter and continued to score at will with a 21-14 fourth-quarter effort to seal the deal.
Mariah Ferris reached double figures with 13 points and hit one of two freethrows. Emily Lindsay scored 10 and hit for 5-of-8 from the stripe, while Kolbie Brow had nine points and was 9-of-10 at the line. Kaylee Rahmann helped the cause with five points, including a 1-of-2 performance at the stripe.
Davison continues to strong arm the opposition, and even when its leaders like Bellamy find themselves cooling their heels on the bench after foul trouble such was the case earlier last week, the deep and talented bench simply steps up its game to keep the sparkling record from being blemished.
With teams in full swing league play, the ladies hope to keep that momemtum going as they take on Flushing Friday at Friday, another challenge with Jordan LaDuke looking to stop what has been working for the Cards.
