Oren Minto, 88, of Davison, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008 at Genesys Hospice Care Center, Goodrich. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 at Davison United Methodist Church, 207 E. Third St., Rev. P. Thomas Wachterhauser officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Davison Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, and 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 E. Davison Road. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home under the auspices of American Legion Post 267. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service Wednesday.
Mr. Minto was born in Flint on Oct. 8, 1919, son of the late Thomas and Clara (Bethke) Minto. He married Joyce L. Harlan on Dec. 4, 1943 at Davison United Methodist Church. Mr. Minto proudly served his country with the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a charter member and past president of the Davison Kiwanis Club, as well as the Davison Chamber of Commerce. He was instrumental in the fund raising for and building of the Davison Community Swimming Pool.
As part of the Minto Brothers Construction, he promoted and constructed the first canopied Main Street shopping area in Davison. He enjoyed serving on the Genesee County Sheriff’s Posse, was the recipient of the Good Scout Award and was inducted into the Davison Alumni Hall of Fame. He had a private pilot’s license and was a charter member of the Davison Flying Club. In the late 1950s, Minto Brothers purchased the McAra farm, on which the entire Minto family built and developed the Davison Country Club. Mr. Minto managed the club until 1991 when he retired.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen (Dick) Morrissett, Harvey, Gabby (Garald), Edward (Iola) and Kenneth; sister-in-law, Marian Minto; and brothers-in-law, Duane Foxworthy and Louis Stefanko.
Survivors include: his wife, Joyce; son, Rod J. (Lisa) Minto; grandchildren, Laurie (Matt) Daunt and Ryan Minto; great-grandchildren, Madeline, Lucas, and Charles Daunt; brothers, Thomas Minto and Robert (June) Minto; sisters, Margaret Foxworthy and Alice Stefanko; sisters-in-law, Joanne, Marilyn, and Pauline Minto; brother-in-law, Richard Harlan; many, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to Genesys Hospice-Goodrich, American Legion Post 267 Color Guard or Davison United Methodist Church.
