Donald F. Hopkins Sr.

Donald F. Hopkins Sr., 82, of Grand Blanc died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007 at Fostrian Manor. Cremation has taken place. A gathering to celebrate his life was at St. Paul Episcopal Church, Flint. Cremated remains were buried at Flint Memorial Park.

Mr. Hopkins was born in Saginaw on Oct. 22, 1924, the fourth son of Joseph and Rosetta May (McKinstry) Hopkins. He attended Flint and Davison schools and served honorably in the U.S. Army as a medic in France and Belgium during World War II. Mr. Hopkins retired from General Motors Buick Motor Division.

He was preceded in death by sons, David and Richard; sisters, Alneta Johnston, Ila Baumgart, Greta Gilliam and Jean Aumaugher; brothers, Harold Hilliker and William Hopkins.

Survivors include: children, Virginia (Charles) McCord of Boyne City, Donald, Jr. (Deborah) of Grand Blanc, Karen of Bay City, Denise (Daniel) Heath of Ann Arbor, Cheryl (Thomas) Farver of Owosso, Patricia (Thomas) Halligan of Flushing; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Adamczyk; 13 grandchildren, Donald Hopkins, III, Holly Hopkins, Laura (Eric) Hall, Jeremy (Margo) Halligan, Alicia Halligan, Behn and Emily Tubman, Jennifer (Melvin) Renfrow, Megan Farver, Nicole and Anthony Gomez, Franklin and David Hopkins; great-granddaughters, Emma Hall and Marie Halligan; sisters, Ruth Boyden and Janet (Albert) Jozwiak; brothers-in-law, Francis Baumgart and Gary Gilliam; many nieces, nephews and special friends, Judy Goodrich and Myrtle Eichorn.

The family expressed thanks to Dr. Marvin Latchana, Dr. Sergio Ponze and staff at FMS Dialysis for many years of compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Lung Association or Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Arrangements were by Swartz Funeral Home.
